SXSW brings all sorts of fun things to town; it’s not just music anymore.
Taking advantage of the hip crowds that converge on Austin this time of year, American Express has teamed up with Foursquare, a location-based social network for mobile devices. As Tania says in her video above, videos can be fantastic to get the attention of the search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc). Part of the magic is that Google, the largest search engine, owns YouTube, the largest video sharing site.
Google seems to be trying to catalog every written word on the planet, and, being Google, I wouldn’t be surprised if they accomplish this someday.
Anyway, they have loads of information and data in their files, but only a minute portion is listed in their search results.
However, if you create a properly optimized YouTube Channel, and then upload even a single video (also properly optimized, of course), “magically” your search engine results are increased, sometimes even exponentially.
If you did a decent video every day (as Tania suggests), I imagine your value at Google would absolutely skyrocket. But I believe even one good video per week would be huge for targeted traffic to your web site.
